Spigen Tough Armor case review for Galaxy S10: Durable, functional, affordable
2022-03-15
Spigen S10 Tough Armor is one of the best "heavy duty" covers we can find for the Samsung Galaxy S10.
Everyone knows that the Galaxy S10 is a delicate phone. Not that we'd deny the fact that it's dust/water resistant according to IP68 certification, or that it's protected by Gorilla Glass 6. That doesn't change the fact that there's still a risk of cracking or shattering the front and back of this phone with a suitably painful fall.
There are plenty of cases that provide enough protection from everyday wear and tear, but if you need something a little more demanding. We recommend you consider the Spigen Tough Armor product.
Spigen has taken care of almost every detail on the Tough Armor, except for the looks. The outer plastic layer is a plain slab made of so-so stuff, and given the appeal of the S10 device. Using a case that looks as boring as Tough Armor is kind of a contradiction in terms. Similarly, it would be nice to see more colors in Spigen's lineup for this product in the future. At this point, we have four options to choose from. But the only one that really stands out is the rose gold Rose Gold. Brown. Black and Graphite Gray overall are also okay. Nevertheless, they are all neutral, predictable and not very visually interesting.
Tough Armor is easy to like
Sturdy case + built-in stand included
For those who don't mind adding some bulk to their smartphone, it's hard to find a better case than the Spigen Tough Armor. After all, it provides military-grade protection and has a built-in stand. It's available in several different colors, and on top of that, it doesn't cost too much.Advantages
- Military grade protection
- Button covers that do not interfere with use
- Wireless charging still works
- Built-in support
Disadvantages
- Boring design
- Not enough colors to choose from
What do we like about the Spigen Tough Armor case for the Galaxy S10?
As you can probably expect from the name Tough Armor, this is a really great case when it comes to protecting our S10 from potential damage. The Tough Armor for Spigen has a classic two-layer design: The S10 rests on a flexible layer made of TPU plastic, while a hard outer plastic shell helps cushion the incoming shock and keep the case in place. All of this makes the Tough Armor very rigid and secure - so much so that it's rated for military strength (specifically, MIL-STD 810G-51.6 certification). Like many of Spigen's other cases, the Tough Armor also features the manufacturer's proven airbag technology, which helps absorb shock on particularly painful drops. The S10's buttons are covered with a rubbery layer of TPU plastic. But despite this, they are still easy to press, thus offering a satisfying touch experience. We also really like the texture covering the Bixby button. It makes it easier to identify compared to the volume key and power button.Spigen Tough Armor case will protect Galaxy S10 from almost everything
Despite all the protection the Tough Armor offers, the case doesn't feel overly large or bulky. It's certainly a bit thicker and heavier than models like Rugged Armor or Neo Hybrid. In our testing, we never found the case to be a hindrance to use. As someone who generally doesn't like large cases. I was pleasantly surprised by how little the size of this particular product bothered me. As you may have already noticed, there is also a foot waiting for us here at the back of the case. It only opens in one position, but it holds the S10 back with no problem. And it is extremely functional solution that we can take with us anywhere. If anyone uses wireless charging on the Galaxy S10, know that it still works even with the Tough Armor case on. This includes both charging the S10 with the wireless charger and using the Wireless PowerShare feature. What don't we like about the Spigen Tough Armor case for the Galaxy S10?
